The morning air is fresh and soft, the earth is moist and pungent, the crops and grasses are myriad shades of green, the sky is colored with the potential of thunderstorms. It’s cool, crisp and perfectly wonderful. The Heritage Trail in Amish country Indiana is a lonely place on a Sunday morning. Businesses are closed, roads and sidewalks are empty. Nature has been left to care for itself on the farms that go on for miles and miles and miles. Nothing is being mowed, cleaned, built, painted, driven, planted or purchased. Church parking lots are filled with cars, bicycles and horse drawn buggies are parked en masse at various farms and school houses. All else in Nappanee and Wakarusa is at rest. The quiet and peaceful and stillness wafts Sabbath. It’s beautiful. Breathe.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
